| In honor of Jung Chin New York Budokai extends its sympathies to the family of Dojo member Stanley Chin upon the death of his father, Jung Chin, on March 11, 2001. Mr. Chin was 87 years old.Mr. Chin came from his native China to the United States during World War II, leaving his family behind. He joined the US Army in 1942 and became a Private First Class in the 824th Tank Destroyer Battalion, where he qualified as a sub-machine gunner. Mr. Chin saw action in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatres, and took part in the Battle of the Rhine, the last major battle of the War in Europe. During his three years in the Army, he earned a medal of Good Conduct, the AmericanTheatre Service medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service medal, with two Bronze Stars. We are sharing a part of Mr. Chin's life story in order to honor him as a real warrior on the field of battle, who returned home to successfully raise a large family and prosper on the relatively quiet streets of New York.
