Ryushin Jigen Ryu is a Japanese sword system that is unique and rarely seen outside Japan. Students will learn to handle an iaito (pratice sword) properly, to draw and cut in various forms. In the First Cut workshop students will get expert instructions on how to test cut a rolled straw mat with an actual "Live" blade. |

Sensei Phil Ortiz is the Chief Instructor for New York Budokai. He has over 30 years experience in Iaido and teaching in the USA as sanctioned by Yahagi Soke in Japan. Sensei Ortiz has a 8th dan in Muso Shindo Ryu, 5th Dan in Ryushin Jigen ryu and teaching license by Yahagi Kunikazu Soke. New York Budokai is the first dojo to teach Ryushin Jigen Ryu in the USA as sanctioned by Yahagi Soke in Japan. After the intro to Ryushin Jigen Ryu is the First Cut workshop which students will get a rare chance to test cut a rolled straw mat with a "live blade". This is called Tamashigiri.
