2001 Sakura Matsuri
New York Budokai took part in the martial arts demonstrations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Sakura Matsuri, April 28 and 29. Our demo was at 4:00 pm both days on the Cherry Esplanade, which was in spectacular full bloom. We briefly showed the curriculum at New York Budokai, including iaido kata, kumidachi (partner kata with wooden swords) and illustrative bunkai, to show the function of some of the iaido kata. The demo took place in the context of other forms of classic budo, including kyudo (traditional archery).
